There has been
many articles written about scent control and bowhunters are especially
tuned into new ways to stay scent free. I probably won't tell you
anything new in this article but you might find that there are things
that you can do better.

So much emphasis the past few years has been put on staying scent free. This is just another high-tech way to avoid being detected by the whitetail. Good hunters do pay attention to their scent but more importantly they pay attention to the direction of the wind. Good hunters use that wind to their advantage by being downwind of any trail they are watching. It is a good idea to approach your stand from the downwind side to further avoid detection.

Whitetail deer have one of the most sensitive noses in the animal kingdom. Researchers tell us that not only can deer smell odors at much lower levels than humans but they can discriminate between many odors in a mixture. That is how they identify each other, communicate and check for danger. Bears on the other hand use their nose actively to also look for food. One of the more effective tools a bowhunter can utilize is the application of scents to deceive animals into bow range. Scents are typically used either as an attractant, a cover or both. These scents can be in the form of a spray, liquid, gel or even impregnated in a solid wafer.
